Fadil Abdurahmanović and Mike Prcic 80 th Jubilee Tourney
Celebrating 64 years of composing chess problems
StrateGems is announcing a jubilee tourney to celebrate the 80 th birthdays of
Fadil Abdurahmanović and Mike Prcic. This tourney will be in three sections:
Section A: Helpmates in 2 or 3 moves with set-play (h#2*, h#3*).
Section B: Helpmates in 2 or 3 moves with at least 2 solutions (no twins).
Section C: Helpmates in 4 or more moves.
The theme for the first two sections (A and B) is the following: Antinomy (Contrasting Play).
The thematic pieces in the first phase cause a certain effect, while in the second phase the
same thematic pieces cause contrasting (contradictory) effect.
Here are some examples of Antinomy: Guard - unguard, Blocking - unblocking, Closing lines -
opening lines, Pinning - unpinning, Critical move - anti-critical move, Bristol - Anti-Bristol,
Check - Check prevention.
The theme for Section C is: Helpmate in 4 or more moves using at least two of the following
themes: Rundlauf, Platzwechsel, Indian and Klasinc.
Judges: Fadil Abdurahmanović and Mike Prcic.
The tourney director is Marko Klasinc.

The due date is September 15 th , 2019.
The results will be published in the January 2020 issue of StrateGems.
All awarded problems will receive book prizes and free electronic subscriptions to StrateGems.

Jirtdan is a problem or study with not more than 5 pieces (including kings).
Some history: Jirtdan is one of the most popular character of Azerbaijanian fairy tales.
He is distinguished by his national identity, courage and wittiness. Jirtdan is an intelligent yongster with tiny heigth. «Jirtdan» is translated from azerbaijanian as small, tiny. In a fairy tale he saved his friends outwitting giant Div.

Джыртдан умный мальчик-подросток, назван так за свой крошечный рост. В переводе с азербайджанского «джыртдан» означает – маленький. В сказке он сумел спасти друзей, перехитрив Дива-великана. В терминологии Aзербайджанской шахматной композиции «Джыртдан»-ом называется композиции с числом фигур не более пяти.

18 TT “PROBLEMIST UKRAJINY” (The Problemist of Ukraine) – 2017
«Problemist of Ukraine» announces a tourney in three sections for miniatures presenting the below themes.
Twomovers. White unpins a pinned black piece (pawn) which then makes at least one move.
Judge: Nikolay Belchikov (Belarus)
Threemovers. In different lines of the solution (set, try or actual play) at least one square welcomes more than one unit of the same colour on the same move (W1, W2, W3, B1 or B2). Twins are allowed but not multiple solutions.
Judge: Charles Ouellet (Canada)
Moremover. Mate in 4-6 moves with 1 or more twins obtained from the initial position by translating (shifting) the position without loss of pieces. The stipulation must be the same in all twins.
Judge: Pietro Pitton (Italy)
Original problems are to be sent before 25.03.2017,

In each of the sections, the winner will then propose a theme for the next tourney and judge it.
